  • Pure Jill: a new collection of uncomplicated style from J.Jill

    #JJillInspiredStyle Challenge 2

photo credit: my 17yo soon-to-be college student (HOLD ME!)

I never thought of getting dressed as being all that difficult, really.  Aaaaand, then I had kids!!!!  Let’s just say the fashion police have got NOTHING on a couple of teen-aged girls insisting, “OH NO, you are NOT going out looking like that, are you?!?”

    Trust me, it’s complicated.

So, as you can imagine, I was very excited to be invited to partner with the J.Jill brand in helping to introduce their new collection of “uncomplicated” clothing.

That’s right, even a dork (like me) can strive to be stylish and I am ALL about helping to inspire busy women (like you AND me) to find a style that compliments, rather than complicates, our already complex lifestyles <—- I made that up, all by myself, you like it?!?

I had the chance to learn more about the Pure Jill collection, get a few really important styling tips from the senior designer, Barbara Pattin AND then review a piece for myself.

  • Kellogg’s #GreatStarts 2014 Olympic Team & My Teen Idol, Jim Craig: sharing their stories to help kids in need.

    Team Kellogg's

Kellogg’s #GreatStarts bloggers, standing left to right: Deanna, Caryn, Jaime, Crystal, Me, Danielle (that’s Jim Craig, SQUEEEE!!!) and Fred standing next to the adorable Charlie White.

I am very honored to once again partner with Kellogg’s, as well as U.S. Olympic legends and athlete hopefuls representing Team USA, as a Champion of #GreatStarts blogger and…yeah, I KNOW!!!…who EVER thought a dork (like me) would EVER be able to say that, out loud.

Last week, I was invited to meet with these awesome athletes in New York City (I know, RIGHT?!?) to help kick-off the 100 day countdown to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and to personally hear each of their great start stories, including that of 1980 U.S. Olympic gold medal hockey team goalie (and my teenage crush) Jim Craig.

After bumping into him and nearly breaking his foot, I mean.

  • One Small Change Challenge: Step #3 – taking accountability for my inaction(s).

    #onesmallchange

I’m very excited to be partnering with the good folks over at Puritan’s Pride in accepting their One Small Change challenge: to make one very personal (yet simple) change toward healthier living and then committing myself to remain accountable by posting my progress in a three-part blog series, throughout the month.

In my first post (Step #1 – The Brain Dump), I started by cleaning out the most cluttered area in the house, my head.  In my second post (Step #2 – Permission To Take a Break), I recorded a couple of break-reminders and set them as notifications, throughout the day.

Finishing up this blog series, I was really hoping to share with you some awesome progress in meeting my goals of walking every day and to make time to do things that quiet the mind…but, I can’t…not exactly, anyway.

Back in the days before kids (B.K.), I used to work for American Standard in their corporate offices here in New Jersey.  I worked in their transportation and logistics department and my job was to make sure that product got to where it needed to be, as quickly as possible.

Which later would prove to be quite helpful, A.K. (after kids) raising 4 children attending 4 different schools.

Today, I am very proud to partner with the good folks at American Standard to help share information about the Flush For Good campaign and, in doing so, help 40 communities in need!

Oh, and we get to share a $200.00 gift card to Lowe’s or Home Depot, because we roll like that.

  • #OneSmallChange Challenge: Step #2 – Permission to Take a Break

I’m very excited to be partnering with the good folks over at Puritan’s Pride in accepting their One Small Change challenge: to make one very personal (yet simple) change toward healthier living and then committing myself to remain accountable by posting my progress in a three-part blog series, throughout the month.

In my first post (Step #1 – The Brain Dump), I started by cleaning out the most cluttered area in the house, my head:  because I’m constantly reminding my kids to make time to do things that quiet the mind and…NO!!!…I have never been very good at taking my own advice…EVER!!!

So, in preparation for this post, I’ve recorded a couple of daily “break-reminders” and this it what they sound like (click the banner to hear it, I mean me, in real time):

  • #OneSmallChange Challenge: Step #1 –
    The Brain Dump

Now that it’s October, the beginning of cold and flu season (a.k.a. creeping crud) here in Jersey, I’m very excited to be partnering with the good folks over at Puritans Pride in accepting their One Small Change challenge: to make one very personal (yet simple) change toward healthier living and then committing myself to remain accountable by posting my progress in a three-part blog series, throughout the month.

    Okay, that’s great, but why?!?

That’s a very fair question and I am MORE than happy to tell you EXACTLY why, thanks:  because I’m hoping to help encourage other folks to slow down, take a few minutes out of every day, to think about simple ways you can take good care of YOU, too!

I’m going to start by cleaning out the most cluttered area in the house: my head

  • Happy Belated National Coffee Day: Will
    Vlog for Cawfee

    Liz's Cawfee #FoamAtHome

    {sponsored post & giveaway}

It’s no secret: I like coffee (A LOT!) and most of my friends (both online and IRL) know NOT to ask me ANYTHING, unless I’ve had my first cup of coffee (or cawfee, if you’re from Jersey).

Or if you happen to be one of my teens and are attempting to take full advantage of my total incoherency:  then, for the love of all things ending in macchiato, ASK AWAY…MY FRIEND!

There are worse things, don’t judge.

Aaaaanyway, In celebration of National Coffee Day (what, it was 9/29, did you miss it too?!?) I’ve partnered with my good friends at TheMotherhood.com and Gevalia and we’ve got some really cool stuff to share with ALL of my fellow coffee lovers, especially if you’ve ever started your day(s), like this:

  • Hard to Digest Moments: Watching movies
    with your teens.

Liz and Glen's Hard to Digest Moment

I am honored to be able to partner with Kellogg’s as a Champion of #GreatStarts blogger, with many thanks for their sponsoring this blog post and allowing me to share our stories with families (like mine) and (hopefully) help get each day off to a great start.

Have you seen the latest Kellogg’s commercials? How’d That Happen and Tweezers are part of the Rice Krispies “hard to digest” campaign, showcasing awkward moments between parents and kids.

When our little ones get smart enough to ask questions that we’re just so NOT ready to answer…yet…and, I’m sorry to say, the conversations don’t get ANY easier once your kids get older (whenever they actually decide to talk to you, I mean).

So, when my friends at Kellogg’s challenged me to capture our own version of a “hard to digest” moment and then encouraged me to create a humorous video about it…*snort*… it was like giving a kid the keys to a virtual candy store.

This time, I asked my 14 year-old son to help and he said yes (cue choir of angels, singing):

  • How we can help Kellogg’s & Scholastic give families free books!

    1st day of school 2013

Disclosure: As a Champion of #GreatStarts blogger, I am honored to partner with Kellogg’s in helping families (like mine) achieve great starts to their days. I am being compensated for my services for the length of the program.

It’s the first day of school, here in Jersey (I know, it is kinda late, but the kids seemed okay wit-it!) which means my crew was up and ready to get out of the house by…wait…for…it…6:30, this morning.

Aaaaaand, I couldn’t help but get all caught up in the tide of nervous energy flowing throughout the house.

I was showered, dressed, baked a loaf of pumpkin bread, and then a batch of pumpkin cookies (for good measure), rounding out the morning with 3 loads of laundry washed and folded by…get…this…before lunchtime!!!

Okay, I lied:  the laundry isn’t folded…YET!!!…which means I should be crashing anytime now and when the kids get home.

Before that happens, I want to tell you about how we’ve partnered with my friends at Kellogg’s and the equally awesome folks at Scholastic to help give families free books!

On second thought, I’ll let my celebrity dad-friend and children’s book author Taye Diggs explain it (seriously, we spoke on the phone and everything!)  Why?!?  Well, I love his voice and he’s way prettier to look at:

  • Our silly little Loopy Krispies Treat vlog or reason #2,934 why you probably won’t see me on the Food Network, anytime soon!

    Loopy Krispies Treat

Disclosure: As a Champion of #GreatStarts blogger, I am honored to partner with Kellogg’s in helping families (like mine) achieve great starts to their days. I am being compensated for my services for the length of the program.

The kids and I are having a slow week up here on Cape Cod — apparently, I am way too much fun for my teens to handle (shuddup!) they’ve been sleeping in since Sunday — so I was very happy when our friend Sue invited us to her house for dinner, last night.

    “Sounds great, we’ll bring dessert!”

We’re headed home on Friday, so I’m trying to (very, very slowly) clean out our vacation pantry.

“Ummmmmmmmm, who ate the last box of brownies?!?”

After vacationing a week and a half on the Cape, with 3 teens and a 12 year-old (same thing, really), the kids are doing a pretty good job of cleaning us out of food.
