World Toilet Day: show your support, pledge to save water and a $200.00 gift card giveaway.

Did you know that today, November 19th, is World Toilet Day?!?  I know what you’re thinking — seriously, what’s next, National Bathtub Week?!?

Okay, here’s the thing, but what most folks don’t realize (and I’m including myself, here) is that over 1.5 billion people in the world are STILL living without access to sanitary water or a proper toilet.

The statistics of children dying due to things we tend to take for granted, like clean water and proper sanitation, are staggering.

Today, I am once again very proud to partner with the good folks at American Standard to help share information about the Flush For Good campaign and, in doing so, help 40 communities in need.

Oh, and we get to share a $200.00 gift card to Lowe’s or Home Depot, because we roll like that.

But first, I wanted to share a little information I learned from our friends at American Standard with you — because I know that sometimes my seeing the actual numbers really does help to put things into perspective — so, about those mind-blowing statistics I spoke of:

#flushforgood facts
Every day, 2,000 children die due to dirty water and poor sanitation
:  3 children die every minute, due to dirty water and poor sanitation.

Diarrhea causes 1.5 million deaths every year in developing countries: sanitation improvements, including sanitary toilet pans, can help cut this number by nearly a third.

43% of people living in rural areas don’t have access to adequate sanitation: each sanitary toilet pan donated goes directly to the most in need of improved sanitation conditions.

Almost 85% of human waste goes directly into rivers and waterways: donated pans will keep waste away from water sources and prevent dangerous contamination.

How consumers (like you and me) here in the U.S. are helping:  with every purchase of an American Standard Champion toilet, they will donate a sanitary toilet pan to BRAC USA and WaterAid who will then distribute the pans to communities in need that lack access to safe sanitation.

Want to help?!?  EXCELLENT!!! Guess what?!?  You just did (yes, YOU!!!) here’s how you already helped make a difference:  just by your reading this blog post, our friends at American Standard have donated 40 sanitary toilet pans, to help 40 communities, in our honor!!!

Because nice matters, poverty sucks and helping others less fortunate just feels right.  Right?!?

So, as a special “thank you” the good folks at American Standard have offered to send one (1) of our online friends a $200.00 gift card to your choice of Home Depot or Lowe’s!

Because, we roll like that.

Capture rain water in a bucket and use it instead of tap water on your indoor plants.

I turn the water off while I brush my teeth, and also while I’m scrubbing dishes in the sink before they need to be rinsed. That’s how I save water at home!

I turn the water off while brushing my teeth and I also keep a pitcher of water in the fridge to keep it cold without having to run it from the tap until its cold.

Earlier this year I became aware of issues related to lack of access to fresh water, including the sanitation issues you mentioned. We have a dual flush toilet that uses uses a little water when flushing pee and a higher volume flush for, uh, those bigger jobs.
