Welcome to the 4th Edition of Red, White and Blue Fridays.

Basically, our mission is to recognize and acknowledge members of the U.S. armed forces and their families and, hopefully, bring awareness to the ways in which bloggers can show their support.

How?

To me, "support our troops" is more than just a sound bite on a
t-shirt of bumper sticker (my minivan sports a magnet, actually) it
means that I understand the sacrifice, dedication and difficult
decisions members of our military make, every day, and honoring that commitment, by making one of my own.

What?

I’ve pledged to celebrate Red, White and Blue Fridays and showing my support by spreading the word on ways we (bloggers, like you and me) can say, "Thank you!"

Today, I’d like to tell you about a couple of simple ways we can bring our troops a little bit of home.

No, it’s true, ask anyone of the service and repair departments currently on my speed dial – my kids and husband Garth (not his real name) WILL tell you – I am a total KLUTZ aaaaaand there’s a very good reason why my other blog has the following proviso:

It’s no secret. I like getting stuff. I like writing about the stuff
that we like and perhaps make my family’s life a little easier.
Especially, if it works!

Or, I haven’t managed to break it…YET!

On the other hand, taking into consideration that I did NOT break the stupid dryer, there are some things that just don’t seem to work out right for us.

More specifically, appliances and…well…anything with mechanical and/or moving parts.

Seriously, I have voltage issues which, in turn, increases my chances of having some serious bad luck with electric.  Hell, I managed to set my bra on fire and  kill the dishwasher.  Oh, AND I nearly fried the entire neighborhood, dancing with power tools, again.

Hang on.  Don’t go.  Fear not, there maybe more to the total DORK you see, before you! I had some time to kill at school, yesterday – my kids make me park way in the back – and I managed to come up with a list of stuff that, you know, still work.

It’s Super Tuesday and the OTHER Tuesday, as well.  You know, Mardi Gras (we try NOT to use the "F" word too much, here) so, throw me some beads, WHOOT!  I’ve got a new article up on Imperfect Parent – just in time for Valentine’s Day – come read about Our Dirty Little Secret ;o)

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the polls!

[Edited to add:  Just got a call from Hillary Clinton, reminding me that the polls are open until 8 p.m., here in Jersey.  What a country!]

This is one of my favorite pictures of my parents – it was taken shortly after their engagement in 1963 – and is a perfect depiction of a young couple, living in America, at that time.

Except, they weren’t American citizens.

My parents immigrated during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and met for the first time here, in New Jersey, on a blind date.

They carried green cards, worked whatever jobs they could get and learned to speak English by listening to radio commercials and watching television show, like and Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
