  • Donate a Photo: Taking Selfies for Good & Healthy Essentials Giveaway

    Our Beach
We are currently vacationing in Cape Cod, MA (a.k.a. my pretend home), and with our oldest girl working full-time and our middle girl entering her senior year in high school (no, I’m not quite sure how THAT happened, either!) we’re taking advantage of sharing every possible moment, together:  oh yes, there will be selfies 🙂

Today, I’m very excited to partner with my friends at TheMotherhood.com and share with you information about Donate a Photo: a free app developed for Android and iOS platforms that allows consumers (like you and me) to
give back to causes we care about by taking those selfies and
turning them into a way to do good — #SelflessSelfies.

  • This Full House Monstrous Giveaway

Comments are now closed: sincerest congratulations to Mary Calabrese (comment #49), Jenn Hammond (comment #3) and Melissa Meyer(comment #42)!!! Please check your email for further instructions 🙂

My husband, Garth (not his real name) and I have been helping prepare our two oldest girls (mostly ourselves) for college.

    Holly and Heather June 2012

look, we’re smiling (on purpose!), no more braces 🙂

Holly (our 19yo) has been working full-time since graduation and will start taking classes, towards a teaching degree, in the fall, while Heather is beginning her senior year in high school — emotionally, we’re ready; financially, not so much.

Then again, with today’s economy, who is, right?!?

I am very excited to partner with Kellogg’s and their Scare Scholar promotion on Facebook, launched in conjunction with the super-adorable Monsters University movie:  the promotion offers folks the chance to win instant prizes each day and culminate in one grand prize drawing for a $10,000 scholarship in August.

Here’s the really fun part:  I get the chance to share three (3) pretty fabulous prize packs (each including a $200.00 gift card and movie tickets) right here, with you…yes, maybe even YOU!!!

    Because, we roll like that.

  • Our Stay, Play and Eat Weekend at Morey’s Piers

#moreyspierscollageMy family and I were very honored to have been invited, as special guests of  Morey’s Piers, to spend the weekend in Wildwood, NJ and meet the famous Morey brothers, in person.

    Okay, so I was THRILLED!!!

I got to revisit some of my favorite childhood memories of summertime(s) past:  when my twin brother and I would spend our days playing on the beach, as my parents sunned themselves while listening to my dad’s favorite doo-wop radio station (WCBS FM 101.1), and then follow the parade of flip flops, begging our parents for “Please, just one more quarter?!?” to play any one of the dozens of carnival games (it was a long time ago, shuddup!) along the 2 miles of boardwalk, at night.

Okay, great, but what really made this family getaway even MORE fabulous:

  • Pledge to Help #FinishTheFight Against Cancer

    Me and My Bro 2013

Disclosure: with many thanks to the American Cancer Society for sponsoring and compensating my writing about ways in which we can help give cancer the virtual bitchslap it deserves!

I love this picture of my twin brother and me:  it was our birthday (yesterday!) and this is where I would joke about our age, insisting that we were actually celebrating another anniversary of our 29th birthday.

I’ve never  been very comfortable with numbers, most especially when used as the “only” tool in defining a person’s worth, but today I am putting all thoughts of vanity aside and outing myself:

  • Share Your Life List & Give Cancer A Virtual Bitchslap!

    Liz's Life List

You like?  I made this life list, myself, with many thanks to the American Cancer Society for sponsoring and compensating my writing about ways in which we can help give cancer the virtual bitchslap it deserves!

The American Cancer Society is celebrating their 100th birthday this month (5/22/13) and, in honor of the many brave battles being fought (and/or lost) by way too many of my family and friends, I have the extreme privilege of partnering with the ACS in helping to amplify their most recent effort in helping us to celebrate MORE of life’s special moments, like:

  • Tell Us Which City’s Shelter Dogs to Feed Next

    Doofus in the pillows

PEDIGREE CTNC Blog Post: This post is sponsored by PEDIGREE Brand, which compensated me to develop this content and reader giveaway.

I wanted to share a quick update with you on the special feeding project I've been working on with Pedigree and Miranda Lambert (love her)!

With your help, Pedigree has received more than 14,000 nominations, from all over the country, for their Choose the Next Communities program:  a new initiative to feed more shelter dogs while they wait adoption.

The top five finalists are in and now we get to tell Pedigree which city's shelter dogs to feed next.  I am also excited to be able to share a special gift basket with one of you and your bdf:  best dogfriend forever.

First, the top five community shelters include:

  • Social Media for Good: Blood, Sweat & Brinner!

Heather blood type = A for AwesomeI started blogging back in 2003 and, thinking back on it now, there weren’t many people in my real life who knew or understood why in the heck I would even consider sharing personal stories, “on the internet”.

Flash-forward 10 years:  nearly everyone I know is “on the internet” (including my own father, hey Apu!) doing pretty much the same thing — connecting with each other and sharing information through social media channels like Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest — not to mention, sharing stuff about their kids.

My kids have grown accustomed to hearing me go on…and on…and on…really, I could go on…fuh-evuh…about using their social media powers for good.

Aaaaaand, then my middle girl (she’s 17) tells me her classmates are organizing an evening blood drive at a local community church over spring break and, well, how cool would it be if we help serve the folks donating blood breakfast for dinner (or brinner)?!?

  • New York’s Finger Lakes: The Canandaigua Wine Trail

Eagle Crest Wine and newly constructed outdoor pizza oven!

I had the extreme pleasure of being invited by new friends at the Finger Lakes Visitors Connection in Ontario County, NY for a girlfriends weekend getaway and join them as guests of the Finger Lakes Foodie Awards.

We were treated to a wonderful foodie tour and met with some of the most amazing folks spearheading the farm to table (a.k.a. field to fork) food revolution.

Our 4-day visit was packed with SO MANY wonderful experiences, so I am very excited (and most eager) to share with you the fun things to see and do in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, including the mirepoix of good times:  wine, food and friends.

I’ve decided to create a series of blog posts to help us along in our journey — I don’t want you guys to miss a thing — so, I thought today maybe we could focus on wine…yes?!?

  • Share Breakfast with a Child During National Breakfast Week

Growing up, my family was no stranger to hunger.  So, yes, it pains me to learn that nearly 1 in 5 kids across our communities go without breakfast, every day.  I am very proud to once again partner with KelloggsAction for Healthy Kids and Mr. Taye Diggs in the Share Breakfast effort to provide breakfasts to kids who might otherwise go without.   How?  By sharing ways in which you can help share breakfast with a child in need, too.  It’s really super-simple, promise:

  • Helping Shelter Dogs Find Their Forever Families With Miranda Lambert

I often write about having a REAL special place in my heart for animal shelters and rescues, like our Doofus-Dawg, so I  was invited out to Nashville, TN (along with 5 other animal-loving bloggers, last December) for a very special project with my new friends over at Pedigree to help feed shelter dogs while they wait for their forever homes and, well, how could I say no, right?!?
