Oh, give me a break – as if a woman had any part in the Cowboy’s losing yesterday’s game – still, it’s funny how some people CAN think these sort of things up!
Yes, I am a HUGE fan of football – though, Garth (not his real name) will tell you that salivating over all the cute quarterbacks traipsing around the field, lately and being easily amused by the butt-slapping does NOT constitute as good sportsmanship – but, I have to tell you, last night’s game WAS one of the MOST difficult ones to watch.
"Yessssss….we won…GIANTS RULE!"
Living
in Giants country – the stadium IS in Jersey, ya’ know – and not having
seen our homeboys in a Superbowl since…um…how long has it
been…since, Joe Montana played?
Whatever.
YES, I know he played for San Fransisco and the 40-something team,
but it also happens to be around the time I started to, you know,
notice!
It’s easy to get caught up in all the excitement.
"GREAT…that’s good…um…so, is the Superbowl over?"
My parents grew up watching "the other" football
and the poor things are trying, really hard, to share in their
grandson’s excitement and understand the tackling, punting, downs, ins,
outs…and what IS up with all the flag throwing?
"No, they HAVE to play the Green Bay Packers, first and then whoever wins when the Chargers and the Patriots play, next week."
[blank stare]
"GREAT…good…um…how about we eat some more soup!?!?"
My
son turns 9…oh, holy Hannah Montana…in a few days and I can’t
believe his birthday is next week, already, or the fact that he
obviously thinks I am such a DUNCE!
"How do YOU know so much about football, Mom?"
Oh, how my husband Garth (not his real name) laaaaaaaughed!
"Well, I happen LOVE football and watched it way before I met Daddy, even.
Hard as it MUST be for my kids to believe that I even, you know, HAD a life, before children.
"In fact, I used to go to the Giants’ spring training camp!"
[eyes go wide]
"Whoa…CEWL!"
[smiling]
"Yep, I even got a couple of their autographs!"
[looking a little skeptical, now]
"Oh, yeah…huh…well, which players?"
[blink-blink]
"Um…you know…the Giants…uh…who were practicing….um…I can’t seem to remember…well, it WAS a long time ago."
I mean, we WERE talking the 80’s and I did use A LOT of…ahem…hairspray back then.
"Yeah, way before they started wearing shoulder pads."
[hands on hips]
"NOOOO…don’t
listen to your father…and I’ll have you know it was EXACTLY around
the time that shoulder pads and leg warmers were totally in!"
[the sound of crickets chirping]
"It’s all about the clothes for you, isn’t it?"
Well, not really and I told my husband so – although, I pointed out that my guys probably DO have one of the prettiest uniforms – and oh, how my son laaaaaaaughed.
"Okay, perhaps you ARE both right and football is JUST a manly sport!"
Yep, they caught me.
[shrugs shoulders and adjusts bra straps]
For me, it is ALL about how gosh-darned cute those Eli Manning and Brett Favre-types are!
"Besides, you don’t see any butt-slapping in figure skating!"
Yes, figure skating IS a sport and heck, even some football players CAN cry.

I only ever watch football when the Broncos are doing well… which (a-hem!) means not much football watching this season. I guess maybe I’ve been watching for all the wrong reasons–I missed all the ‘cute quarterbacks traipsing around the field’. I can see how that might make it all more interesting. 😉

We are a Cowboys family and I still cannot believe we lost. T.O. had a wonderful interview and finally spoke up for Romo. I think that Romo, T.O. and Barber did awesome, unfortunately the rest of the team fell a bit short. Oh well, there is always next year.
Darn Giants…LOL…They need to bend over so that I can kick them in the … well you know…teehee.
