I received a very lovely email from a long, lost high school buddy (Hi John!) and if you appreciate my avoiding using the word "old," then you are probably a border-line baby boomer, like me, right?!?
Aaaaanyway, it's been fun catching up (via Facebook) and learning a little about our respective family life, like, oh, I don't know, how difficult it can be, raising teenage girls.
STILL IS: most especially, if you live in my house and happen to be the dad, which brings to mind the discussion, early this morning.
Heads up, John, you're gonna LOVE this one:
My youngest (she's 10) having older sisters (they are nearly 18 and 16) is totally pre-occupied with…um…gosh, now to try and find the right words…uh…okay, I'm going to put this as delicately as possible.
She is actually looking forward to getting her period.
"When did Holly and Heather get theirs, again, Momma?"
Hey, wait, John, where are you going?!? Look bud, you asked AND there is absolutely NOTHING delicate about raising teenagers — especially, girls.
Which is EXACTLY why my husband left the kitchen (coward) but, since YOU asked, it's really, really important that YOU listen to this, John!
Promise.
Sooooooo, aaaaaanyway, interestingly enough, there was a theme to my two oldest daughters…ahem…graduating into Kotexhood:
- Oldest: while having lunch with my parents.
- Middle Girl: while having dinner with my inlaws.
Also, the REAL reason WHY my youngest is looking forward to her [cough-cough] graduation is, well, because my husband Garth (NHRN) treated each of my older girls to a "Welcome to Womanhood!" gift bag, including:
- Flowers
- Chocolates
- Teen Magazine and Tiger Beat
I mean, what woman doesn't enjoy receiving gifts, right?!?
"Except, tell Daddy that I would like The Star and In Style Magazine!"
Did I mention, she is the youngest of three girls?!?
[sound of a door, SLAMMING!]
Dear John:
Remember, YOU asked! Also, it was nice knowing you Dude!
Best wishes,
Liz
No, I don't expect a response, anytime soon, either.

Hey, she knows what she wants! (except I’m a little confused with the extremes: The Star and InStyle? They couldn’t be further apart! Nonetheless, she knows what she wants! haha)

Ha!! My husband is the dad of an 8 year old, and I can see him running hard and fast from this message.
I kind of love that your husband gives them a present. That is sweet.

It was bad enough with only one teen daughter, you are a saint for going through 3 (eventually) ‘graduations.’
