It's hard to believe that my middle girl was only 7 years-old when I started This Full House in 2003 and now…DAYUM!…but, look how we've BOTH grown!
So, what's this about then?
It's all Mrs. Flinger's fault — I've been reading my blogging friend Mrs. Flinger for a long time, now. She's a very lovely mom, a wickedly talented html coding diva and her Tweets make me snort coffee through my nose (she is THAT funny) and we've both been around the Internets for a while and can still remember when Dooce was just a girl who couldn't spell Dude.
Even though Mrs. Flinger admits she's just a girl with a blog, she's a mentor to about a bazillion people (like me) who read her blog and come to love her over the years…and she doesn't even know it.
Let's face it, blogging isn't what it used to be and I've been talking to a lot of [ahem] "old school" mom bloggers who have said the same exact thing — how it's hard NOT to get all wrapped up in stats and feed reader rubbish — yet, we keep typing along with the best of them.
Wonder if Dooce feels that way, too?
I had the pleasure of being interviewed this week (I don't know how that happened, either) and was asked to provide some insight on my six year love/hate relationship with the Internet and penchant for using the word "mom" and "blogger" in the same sentence…oh, and wow…they actually printed it and nobody's more excited, or surprised, than I am, trust me!
However, the first question asked is one that I happen to get, a lot:
How do you manage to raise a family AND update your blog on a regular basis?
Good question. I try to get all of my writing done, while all 4 of my kids are in school, during the day. Some days, this actually works. Most times, I’m scrambling, to get things done, just like everyone else I know.
Sure, I've thought about quitting
[checks watch]
Aaaand there isn't a day that goes by when someone isn't sending me stupid stuff about things that have nothing to do with my life, from some unmarried 20-something-year-old empathizing with my "very busy" life, or how they ARE the answer to all my prayers and I should be writing about their stuff (would tomorrow be good?) and I'm like…UGH!…shuddup, already.
Then, I get an email like this:
"My brother recently lost his job and I'm sending the $25.00 gift card I won on your website to him, because I know his family could really use it, right now! Thank you for all that you do!"
And I'm all like…just shuddup and blog, already.
Look, being a parent is hard — although, some people may be sick (and tired) of my playing the mom card…AGAIN — but, I can't help it.
It's exciting to be able to help someone (sort of makes my suckage seem a lot less, I dunno, suckier) or, to contribute into an ongoing conversation on such an adult level and you can read the rest of my thoughts on blogging for Team Mom over at Mom Market Trends.
Look, I get it. I'm no Dooce. My husband, Garth (not his real name) will always be my one and only sponsor who has consistently committed himself to supporting me and my blogging habits.
Seriously, I wish that ALL marketers would at least try to understand that!
On the other hand, my husband doesn't read my blog….either….and, let's face it, I don't care how long you've been blogging, ALL us mom bloggers have at least one thing in common.
We are committing our thoughts, hopes, dreams and fears into words, so that (hopefully) our children will one day realize that, even though we get to do some really cool stuff, we're happy to be able to write about just being a mom and how that wasn't always easy, either.
No matter how complicated this whole blogging thing gets, I will always write.
