A Letter to the Next President of the United States

Dear Mr. President,

I know you’re busy.  You’ve worked very hard, traveled many miles, remained sleepless for a ridiculous amount of hours and heard millions of voices asking you to remember them in your considerations as the next President of the United States.

As a mom of 4 children, I feel it safe to say…it’s about to get worse.

You see, my husband works full-time for the banking industry (which is slowly going to hell in a hand basket, as you know btw) and I am (and have been) the sole care provider to our children for the last 14 years.

I’ve grown quite used to
living…well…in a state of confusion.

Did I mention, we live in New Jersey?

You, however, have made
a career out of understanding the infinite number of twists and turns
involved in navigating the political processes of our great country (as
well as our neighbors) and, although I appreciate the dynamics that are
involved, my agenda is much more simplistic in nature.

Here’s what’s kept me up, the last few nights, in no particular order:

1.  For the first time, in 14 years, my husband and I are cutting back to the point of not buying each other gifts, or going out on mommy and daddy playdates anymore and rationing our meat consumption in an effort to stretch our meals.

2.  Recently, while looking into the possibility of relocating our family to somewhere, you know, better to live…I was hospitalized for 2 hours, for which we were billed the equivalent of a family vacation to Disney (yes, my kids happen to be the ONLY ones in our neighborhood, have NEVER been) causing us to pay the difference with our charge card and I still don’t know how we’re going to come up with the money for braces (2 of my kids need them, so far, AND badly) and I’ve put off my yearly physical, for years.

3.  My parents are ill, so their health care costs are astronomical and they’re slowly going through their savings (50 years in the making) and I don’t know how they’re going to pay for, you know, everything else.

4.  We don’t visit my children grandparents, who live about an hour away, as often as we should, to save on gas.  So, they traveled up to give us an anniversary gift and slipped in extra few bucks to helps us with back-to-school shopping.

5.  One, if not more, of our parents will probably have to move in with us in the very near future and, although we’d make the room, we’ve already got 6 people living in a 7 room house.

6.  My husband works for the banking industry, ‘nuf said.

Our problems (of which there are many more than the 6 listed above, you’re welcome) probably don’t seem half-as-bad as what you’ve got waiting on your plate, I know.

Still.

Perhaps it will help to know that if our family has been able to survive the last 8 years, considering ALL the resources and aid that you have available, then you sure as heck will be able to get through the next 4, Mr. President.

All I ask, Mr. President, is you take a moment to remember that you, however, are accountable to ALL of us — your voters and non, alike — at least once, every day.

Oh…and I’m sure the rest of my mommy (and daddy) friends would certainly appreciate one peaceful night’s sleep, as well.

Respectively yours, etc…etc…

Great post. My kids have never been on vacation, poor things are getting tired of making up vacations in the beginning of the school year because they feel stupid when the teacher makes them write & they have nothing to write.
I wish the government would get out of Women issues, gay issues, etc & work on fixing our economy & other problems.
