This month marks the first anniversary of Bloggers Unite and they’re launching an awareness campaign chosen by BlogCatalog members and partnering with Amnesty International. Today, May 15, 2008, bloggers across the Internets are uniting for human rights to make a statement:
All people are born with basic rights and freedoms – life, liberty, and justice!
So, what DOES a wigged-out, total klutz of a mother with 4 kids, 2 cats, 1 super-hyper sock-eating dog and 2 damn much laundry (like me) possibly have to say about human rights, that would make sense to anyone else other than the voices in her head, anyway?
Well, I can choose to ignore the catastrophic events in Myanmar (Burma) not being able to fully comprehend the loss of so many men, women and children. Though, my heart aches for their pain and suffering. Then, perhaps I’ll shake my head in disgust when our country (as well as others) offers aid and it is refused, because it is said that the reigning regime is suspicious of foreigners and the government insists Myanmar can handle the disaster…on its own.
I mean, in the whole scheme of things, what’s the dif?
Well, it’s no longer just a political issue, because there are A LOT of people who need help and disaster relief is…literally…just waiting to happen.
There is a way you (yes, YOU!) and I can help.
How?
Call on the government of Myanmar to ensure that humanitarian aid is distributed to the victims of Cyclone Nargis and that they cooperate with international relief efforts.
Go to Amnesty International’s site and, if you don’t already know, read the accounts of the devistation in Myanmar. Then, click on over to their Online Action Center and send a message to Linn Myaing – Ambassador and Respresentative of the Union of Myanmar to the United States – asking that he fully cooperate with the international relief and rehabilitation efforts underway…with transperancy…in delivering ALL international aid.
