Being elegant, gentle, soft-spoken and a bit shy, by nature (no, not ME!) Thing One was born with a wonderful sense of being able to recognize, understand and empathize with what other people are feeling.
Then, one day, she woke up and unleashed the demon child within.
"I…HATE…MY…HAIR!"
I mean, she is 14-years-old. It’s cruel, you know. Afterall, she’s a teenager [shudder] but, I see her as my first born baby girl. You know, the one with the headful of unruly curls and gummy-bear grin. It’s like she’s mysteriously metamorphosed, overnight. The older she gets? Heh. Well, NOW I feel as if I’m grasping at air and slowly losing control of every aspect of her physical being.
"But, I love your…[cough]…um…I mean, okay."
Yes, puberty sucks – watching your kids deal, sucks wet poodle.
"Yes, I can drive you to get a new straightener…tomorrow."
[growling]
"Let me get my keys."
It’s hard, you know.
[squeeeeee]
"Oh, Momma…I…JUST…LOVE…MY…HAIR!"

Aaaaand…THAT, my friends…is exactly why I blog!
So, when life presents my husband Garth (not his real name) and me with precious little moments, like these…you know…whenever my kids ARE happy…then, I make sure to take lots and lots of pictures…so I can remember and THEN…I feel the love, again.
Oh, but (if, you’re a parent) you probably already knew that…huh?

My daughter is already a hair fanatic at age 12. She drives me crazy by taking MY hair straightener every morning. Yeah, I should really just go buy her her own already.

You know, I remember being that age…and I remember hating my stick straight hair, so it got permed..and then puberty hit and my hair became naturally wavy.
Tell her the upside is she can always wear her hair curly or she can wear it straight. As my mother used to say, you know people would pay good money to have hair like yours.
But you are a good mom for being supportive of her in her time of need 😉

She sounds like my Tamar. But Tamar is only 8, so I still have a few quiet years.

Why do they have to be teenagers? Can’t they just be babies and then jumped to their adulthood?
Look on the bright side. They will grow up and have their own children also. And they will go through the same exact thing we are going through with them.
